In the fraud, a Belgian customs broker acting on behalf of Chinese exporters is alleged to have wrongly declared that Chinese goods entering Liege airport were destined for other EU countries and therefore enjoyed duty-free treatment. On March 28, the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) carried out 10 raids in various locations, including Liege airport, and arrested 4 suspects. The raids focused on companies active in international freight, importers and exporters, suspected of evading at least 310 million euros (VAT+ duty).
